Little people can sometimes have big emotions, and it's usually when you want them to play nice for a photo that they have other plans!


As co-owners of Impressions Photography Studio and parents to two beautiful daughters, we've seen every emotion a child can throw at us ... and it's all ok.


But of course, if you're booking in a Smash & Splash session, you want some assurance that you will have photography you'll treasure.


While we can't control your child's mood or emotions on the day, we can do lots of things to host a session where we will achieve some beautiful photography for you.


We get to know your child before the session

We will send you a Client Profile Form ahead of the session, requesting information about your child. The types of music or activities they like, and whether there is anything we need to be aware of, eg sensitivity to sound, means we can help your child to feel as comfortable as possible in our studio space.


We don't rush to get started

We let kiddies explore our space and the set. This helps them to get comfortable and familiar with the environment. Also, we don't pick up the camera straight away, as some children can feel afraid it. The speed your child needs to go, is always best.


WE Start with family photography on purpose

Your Smash & Splash session includes a mini family photography session by design. Part of encouraging children to go happily into the Smash & Splash setting is them understand that parents are comfortable in the setting too, that they're safe in the space and won't be left alone.


We play music and games to keep them happy and calm

There will be lots of singing and dancing to keep them engaged, and importantly, to keep their eye line on the camera.


We keep taking photos, even when the tears start

It's very normal for a one year old to have a wobbly moment in the middle of the session. Even when this happens, we keep taking photos. A brief moment of calm among the tears often makes for a good shot, so we keep our camera firing!


Parents are always surprised at the number of great photos we capture when they feel their child isn't playing nice.


We include siblings

Having the comfort of older brothers and sisters helps to keep little one calm and focused.
