Baby's first photography session is such a special moment, after all, they're only so little for so long.
As one of Adelaide's longest running portrait photography studios, we have photographed thousands of newborns across Adelaide, so we know a thing or two about newborn photography preparation.
Some babies may have a very predictable routine in those first few days of life. Others may be a little more unpredictable, and need a helping hand.
But whatever the routine or mood of your baby on Session Day, here are our top tips for how to prepare baby for their session.
Consider best time of day for you and baby
It may be difficult for you to know if baby is best in the morning or afternoon, but you're likely to know the time of day you feel best. If you're better after a morning rest, then baby will more likely be too! We have morning and afternoon sessions available so please let us know when you're booking.
Bath baby before the session
A warm bath will help baby feel calm and relaxed before the session.
Give baby time after a feed
For some babies, they need a feed to settle immediately, and for others, they need some time to settle their little stomachs before laying back down. This is especially important if baby often has colic after a feed. We'll chat about your baby and their feeding schedule when you arrive, and we'll do our best to adjust a session to suit how your baby is feeling.
MOISTURISE!
Babies can be quite dry after the thick, white natural coating called vernix caseosa comes off their delicate skin. Slathering baby with sorbelene before the photography session helps to reduce the appearance of dry skin, and gives the baby a beautiful glow in natural light and under studio lights.
Bring a dummy
Even if baby doesn't take a dummy, it's best to have one on hand to assist us with settling into the sets, even if we need it just for a minute at a time.
